Babies
A milk allergy is the most common food allergy for babies. Symptoms typically include diarrhea, vomiting, irritability, skin rashes and/or failure to thrive.
To take milk out of the baby’s diet, nursing mothers should eliminate all dairy from their diet. Parents may also choose to switch from a cow’s milk-based formula (i.e. Similac, Enfamil, Nutramigen, Alimentum) to an elemental formula like Neocate, which is not only 100% milk-free, it is also manufactured in a 100% milk-free environment.

Children
Children with food allergies need to avoid the foods they are allergic to as well as any foods that contain that allergen. For example, a child allergic to egg must also avoid mayonnaise and most cakes and pastas.
To ensure your food allergic child is getting the proper nutrition he needs, find alternative sources of the protein, vitamins and minerals that he is missing from foods he is allergic to. You may want to consult with your pediatrician or a dietitian.
A child with multiple food allergies may benefit from a nutritionally complete elemental formula like Neocate Junior or E028 Splash. |
